Red Son is going to be one of two animated movies focused on the Man of Steel that’s currently slated for next year, along with an original film titled Superman: Man of Tomorrow. The third and final animated movie slated for 2020 is Justice League Dark: Apokolips War. This is the direct sequel to Justice League Dark, which was released in 2017.
These releases were confirmed shortly before the premiere of the studio’s latest animated feature, Batman: Hush.
Superman: Red Son is an iconic storyline that was released back in 2003. The premise is an elseworld narrative that explores the idea of Kal-El’s ship landing somewhere other than Smallville, Kansas. In this particular story, Superman ends up being raised in the Soviet Union during the 1950s. Superman is a hero that commonly represents the fight for “truth, justice and the American way.” So seeing Kal-El grow up in this alternative timeline is a really interesting and perplexing character study.
