DC Universe Cancels ‘Swamp Thing’ After One Season

Deadline has confirmed DC Universe will not renew Swamp Thing for a second season.

Based on the DC characters created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson, the series premiere of Swamp Thing debuted on DC Universe on May 31 with nine additional episodes set to be released on a weekly basis. However, DC Universe has now opted to cancel Swamp Thing less than a week after the series debuted on the streaming service.

According to Geeks Worldwide, who first reported news of the cancellation, the decision was made based on WarnerMedia/AT&T executives’ displeasure with the direction of the series as opposed to the budget or its performance on DC Universe. The cast and crew were informed of the decision to pull the plug on Swamp Thing late last night.

The rest of Swamp Thing season one will continue to air on DC Universe as planned.

SWAMP THING follows Abby Arcane as she investigates what seems to be a deadly swamp-born virus in a small town in Louisiana but soon discovers that the swamp holds mystical and terrifying secrets. When unexplainable and chilling horrors emerge from the murky marsh, no one is safe.

Swamp Thing stars Crystal Reed as Abby Arcane, Maria Sten as Liz, Henderson Wade as Matt Cable, Jeryl Prescott as Madame Xanadu, Virginia Madsen as Maria Sunderland, Will Patton as Avery Sunderland, Jennifer Beals as an original character created for the series, Andy Bean as Alec Holland, Kevin Durand as Jason Woodrue, Ian Ziering as Blue Devil, and Derek Mears as the titular creature.

Swamp Thing is now available exclusively on DC Universe.
