During a recent Twitter exchange, Taika Waititi discussed the name for Natalie Portman’s character in the upcoming film, Thor: Love and Thunder. As you may remember, the film was announced at this year’s San Diego Comic Con, with the added bit that Natalie Portman’s character, Jane Foster, would be returning and wielding Thor’s hammer. Natalie Portman’s MCU version will be inspired by Jane Foster’s Lady Thor in the comics, but it seems Taika Waititi has a new name in mind for her character.
During the exchange, a fan on Twitter talked about how the name would “work” given the change in sex, calling Natalie Portman “Female Thor.” Taika Waititi then “corrected” the fan by giving her a definitive name:
What did you all make of the announcement? Are you happy to see Natalie Portman return to the Thor franchise? What do you make of her wielding Thor’s hammer? Are you glad to see Taika Waititi return to the franchise? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
Taika Waititi’s last Thor film, Thor: Ragnarok, stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Mark Ruffalo, Tessa Thompson, Idris Elba, Karl Urban, and Jeff Goldblum.
Imprisoned on the other side of the universe, the mighty Thor (Chris Hemsworth) finds himself in a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), his former ally and fellow Avenger. Thor’s quest for survival leads him in a race against time to prevent the all-powerful Hela (Cate Blanchett) from destroying his home world and the Asgardian civilization.
Thor: Ragnarok is now available Digital HD, Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, and DVD release on June 11.
Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder will be released on November 5, 2021.
