‘Thor 4’ Director Taika Waititi Isn’t Sure If Film Will Feature Jane Foster Cancer Story

Taika Waititi isn’t sure whether Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster will have cancer in Thor: Love and Thunder as she does in the comics.

Many fans assumed that since Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster will wield Mjolnir in Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder meant that the film would follow the character’s cancer storyline from the comics, but it seems that the director isn’t sure whether the plot point will make it into the film. The film isn’t due for release until November 2021, but according to director Taika Waititi, the story could considerably change in that time.

During an interview with Variety, director Taika Waititi was asked whether the cancer storyline from Jason Aaron’s Mighty Thor run would feature in Thor: Love and Thunder for Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster. The director explained that while the story was an inspiration for the film, everything could be completely different in two years time. Taika Waititi also mentioned that they keep writing through post-production. Take a look at the director discussing the story for Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster in Thor: Love and Thunder below.

“We don’t know. That comics run was a big inspiration, and was an influence on the first few drafts. But at Marvel, we always change everything. I could say one thing right now, and in two years, it will be the complete opposite — or that thing won’t exist. We continue writing even in post-production.”

Do you want to see Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder use the cancer storyline or should they pick a different route for Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster? Let us know what you think in the comments!

Natalie Portman’s return to the Thor franchise follows her reported disappointment over Marvel Studios dismissing original The Dark World director Patty Jenkins. While Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster made a brief appearance in Avengers: Endgame, this was achieved by using old footage from Thor: The Dark World.

Directed by Taika Waititi, Thor: Love and Thunder stars Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, and Natalie Portman. The film will be based on Jason Aaron’s Mighty Thor comic book run, with Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster set to become the new Thor.

Thor: Love and Thunder is set to hit theaters on November 5, 2021.
