Taron Egerton Addresses Rumors He Will Replace Hugh Jackman As Wolverine

During an interview with Heart Breakfast, Rocketman star Taron Egerton addressed the rumors suggesting he will replace Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.

With the release of director James Mangold’s Logan, Hugh Jackman’s time as Wolverine came to an end after nearly two decades of portraying the character. Since then, fans have been proposing potential contenders to portray the new Wolverine and a recent rumor suggests Taron Egerton could be the one to take over the role from Hugh Jackman.

However, Taron Egerton stated the possibility of him playing the new Wolverine is just a rumor as far as he knows. In fact, Taron Egerton noted he may not be qualified to replace Hugh Jackman for a particular reason:

“That one I think is just a rumour. As far as I’m aware it’s unfounded. I don’t know if I’m quite grisly enough.”

Nonetheless, Taron Egerton explained that while there may be better candidates to replace Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, he would love to join the Marvel universe somehow:

“I mean if the people at Marvel think I am then great, let’s go. But I think there are probably better candidates. But I would love to be involved with that world somewhere”

Marvel Studios, which now holds the film rights to Wolverine and the X-Men following Disney’s acquisitions of 21st Century Fox, is expected to reboot the franchise. However, the studio is reportedly in no rush to introduce the X-Men to the MCU, meaning it will likely be some time before we learn who will replace Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.
