'Terminator' franchise star Arnold Schwarzenegger has undergone open-heart surgery for a catheter valve replacement and is currently recovering in hospital.
According to the outlet’s sources, Terminator star Arnold Schwarzenegger went to Cedars-Sinai on Thursday for what was described as an experimental procedure. A representative for Schwarzenegger made the following statement to the outlet:
” [The procedure was ] to replace a pulmonic valve that was originally replaced due to a congenital heart defect in 1997. That 1997 replacement valve was never meant to be permanent and has outlived its life expectancy, so he chose to replace it yesterday through a less-invasive catheter valve replacement. During that procedure, an open-heart surgery team was prepared … in case the catheter procedure was unable to be performed.”
The representative said that Schwarzenegger is recovering from the procedure and is in stable condition.
Schwarzenegger is set to reprise his role as the Terminator in a sixth installment of the franchise directed by Tim Miller. The new film will reunite Schwarzenegger with Linda Hamilton and is said to be a direct sequel to Terminator 2: Judgment Day with a new young woman as the main character. Schwarzenegger recently revealed that production is expected to begin in October.
The sixth Terminator film is scheduled to hit theaters on July 26, 2019.
