Marvel Studios illustrator Rodney Fuentebella recently released a piece of Avengers: Infinity War concept art that features a very interesting moment between Thanos (Josh Brolin) and Drax (Dave Bautista).
One of the first and most important things audiences learned about Drax the Destroyer in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy was that he truly hates Thanos and has made it his sole goal in life to kill him. The Mad Titan that has been teased in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2012’s The Avengers killed the family of Drax, setting up the story arc that we’ve seen him go through over the course of the Guardians of the Galaxy films and most recently in Avengers: Infinity War.
Though many fans were expecting a major showdown between Drax and Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War given their relationship, the two only appeared on screen together for a brief, though important, moment. According to an unused piece of concept art from the film released via Fuentebella’s Instagram account, there was supposed to be a Thanos/Drax battle that just never made it to the final cut. Check out the awesome concept art in the post below.
When it comes to a huge film such as Avengers: Infinity War, it’s not surprising to learn about how many things were left on the cutting room floor, or never even made it in front of a camera in the first place. It’s possible that the moment could wind up appearing in next year’s Avengers 4 but that hasn’t been confirmed and fans will most likely have to wait and see Avengers 4 up on the big screen next May to find out if the anticipated showdown will finally take place.
We’ll be sure to keep you updated on all news regarding Avengers: Infinity War and the entire MCU as soon as more information becomes available. Where in the story do you think this scene could’ve fit in? Would you still like to see the fight go down in a future MCU film? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
Avengers 4 is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 3, 2019.
