Last year’s Arrowverse event on The CW, titled Elseworlds, introduced fans to new versions of beloved characters. It also introduced brand new characters to The CW’s ever-growing roster, including Kate Kane (Ruby Rose), aka Batwoman. The fan-favorite character is soon to star in a pilot for her own solo series and it seems that things have gone very well, according to a new report that may have revealed that the series has been picked up for a full season.
The Batwoman pilot is expected to start shooting this March with Game of Thrones‘ David Nutter directing. The pilot episode recently cast Meagan Tandy as Sophie Moore, Camrus Johnson as Luke Fox, and Nicole Kang as Mary Hamilton. Ruby Rose was cast as Batwoman last summer and debuted in The CW’s aforementioned Elseworlds crossover. According to KSiteTV, at the TCA winter press tour, The CW president Mark Pedowitz may have let it slip that Batwoman will be joining Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, and Black Lighting in their DC line up:
Batwoman was first introduced in Detective Comics back in 1956 as Kathy Kane. She was one of the first vigilantes to make up the “Bat-Family.” The character was reimagined for DC’s New 52 as Kate Kane, a Jewish lesbian who protects Gotham City as Batwoman. An ex-soldier who was raised by her obsessive father, Kate Kane picked up the Batwoman mantle separate from her cousin’s decision to fight crime in Gotham. She has no problem putting herself in harm’s way to protect others and she’s also an intelligent tactician who will challenge Oliver Queen for the top slot in Arrow‘s Justice League.
