There’s a potential argument to be made that The Flash might be the most effects-heavy of the DCCW shows. Sure, Legends of Tomorrow involves time travel, but even with the addition of John Constantine to the roster, things haven’t gotten super special effects heavy. Arrow is relatively grounded, so that just leaves Supergirl for comparison’s sake. But consider. We get a lot of metahumans on the series, but you only get huge threats like King Shark and Gorilla Grodd once in a blue moon.
As well you would, given the budget. Television shows, especially now, aren’t cheap to make, and more so if you’re based off of a comic book property. As such, it’s no surprise that you don’t see the likes of King Shark or Gorilla Grodd that often. Now we last saw Grodd on Legends of Tomorrow and while King Shark is presumably still out and about after Crisis on Earth X, series executive producer Todd Helbing revealed in an interview with CBR that, following up on what was announced at San Diego Comic-Con, he hopes to bring the two villains together this season. Per his words:
“You know, a King Shark/Grodd. We’ve been trying to do that every year and we just run out of money, but I think we’ve figured out a way to do it this year. So yeah, I’m really excited. We’re breaking that story right now, actually. And as long as I don’t totally shank the budget, we should be good.”
So indeed, as long as the series doesn’t break the bank with the special effects, we could somehow see Barry Allen tackle both Gorilla Grodd and King Shark at the same time. After all, The Flash is set to celebrate its 100th episode soon. Not to mention Barry is now fighting alongside his future daughter. What better way to celebrate this momentous occasion at some point in the season than by going all out against both King Shark and Gorilla Grodd?
But then, there are more pressing issues for Team Flash at the moment, such as Caitlin uncovering the mystery about her father, Nora growing acclimated to the present, and not to mention the upcoming Elseworlds crossover. What do you think? Would you like to see Barry and Nora go toe-to-toe with King Shark and Grodd this season? Let us know in the comments below.
The Flash stars Grant Gustin, Candice Patton, Carlos Valdes, Danielle Panabaker, Tom Cavanagh, Jesse L. Martin, Danielle Nicolet, Hartley Sawyer and Jessica Parker Kennedy. The series airs on Tuesday nights at 8 P.M. on The CW.
