The episode followed Barry and Iris as they entered Nora’s mind and witnessed her childhood memories from the future. During the excursion, Barry and Iris find themselves in The Flash Museum’s Hall of Villains and watch a video in which Central City Police Captain David Singh says, “The Flash did everything he could, but Cicada killed more people than Zoom or even the Red Death and the way the city saw the Flash – his legacy – was never the same.”
In the comics, Red Death is one of the villainous versions of Batman from the Dark Multiverse introduced in DC’s Metal event by Scott Snyder. This particular version of Batman sought new ways to fight crime and absorbed Barry Allen’s Speed Force, trapping the Scarlet Speedster’s consciousness inside of Bruce Wayne’s body as a result. While this reference may be nothing more than a nod to the Batman character, The Flash has a history of teasing villains before introducing them to the series, with The Thinker having been mentioned twice in season 3 before debuting as the main antagonist of the fourth season.
The Flash continues next week with the episode titled “Goldfaced” and you can read the official synopsis below!

Alexandra LaRoche directed the episode written by Jonathan Butler & Gabriel Garza (#513).
