The episode titled “Failure Is An Oprhan” opens in the future with Tom Cavanagh’s Eobard Thawne and Nora West-Allen formulating a plan to help Team Flash convince Cicada to use the cure that removes an individual’s powers in the present. Although they discover the final moment in history when Barry Allen confronts Cicada, Eobard Thawne warns Nora that a new timeline is struggling to break through and could cost them their chance to defeat the villain. Eobard Thawne warns Nora that this new timeline indicates a new threat is arriving, saying, “Something big is coming… or someone.”
Although the episode concluded with an older version of Cicada’s niece, Grace, ambushing S.T.A.R. Labs and abducting the cured Cicada, fans are speculating that the new threat Tom Cavanagh’s Eobard Thawne was referring to is the DC villain named Godspeed. In The Flash: Rebirth comic book series, Godspeed is the main antagonist and was an old friend of Barry Allen’s named August Heart before lighting granted him speed force powers. Heart subsequently took on the Godspeed mantle and began fatally draining the powers of other Speedsters, ultimately becoming a serial killer who sought revenge on the one who murdered his brother.
Set photos from The Flash recently confirmed Godspeed will appear on the series, though why and how his plan is tied to the ambitions of Tom Cavanagh’s Eobard Thawne is currently unknown.
The Flash stars Grant Gustin as Barry Allen / Flash, Candice Patton as Iris West, Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow / Killer Frost, Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon / Vibe, Tom Cavanagh as Harrison “Sherloque” Wells, Jesse L. Martin as Joe West, Danielle Nicolet as Cecile Horton, Hartley Sawyer as Ralph Dibny / Elongated Man, Jessica Parker Kennedy as Nora West-Allen, and Chris Klein as Cicada.
