‘The Mandalorian’ Director Rick Famuyiwa To Return For Season 2

Disney seems to have a lot of faith in The Mandalorian as the second season production date has been revealed with season one director Rick Famuyiwa returning.

According to Discussing Film, production on The Mandalorian season two is expected to begin on October 7th of this year. Rick Famuyiwa, who directed two episodes of the first season, will return to direct a currently undisclosed number of episodes. Iron Man director, Jon Favreau will also be returning as the showrunner for The Mandalorain‘s second season.

In addition to his work on The Mandalorian, Rick Famuyiwa also directed the 2015 crime drama Dope. Rick Famuyiwa is also expected to direct the upcoming Netflix film, Past Midnight with Avengers: Endgame directors, The Russo Brothers, producing. So it’s safe to say that Rick Famuyiwa has his plate full of upcoming projects.

Here is a plot synopsis for The Mandalorian:

After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.

The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Giancarlo Esposito, Emily Swallow, Carl Weathers, Omid Abtahi, Werner Herzog, and Nick Nolte. The series was written by Jon Favreau, who also serves as an executive producer alongside Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson. Karen Gilchrist is also on board as a co-executive producer.

Dave Filoni will direct the first episode of the series and additional episodes will be helmed by Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi, Jurassic World star Bryce Dallas Howard, Dope director Rick Famuyiwa, and Jessica Jones episode director Deborah Chow.

The Mandalorian will premiere on November 12, 2019, exclusively on Disney+.
