‘The New Mutants’ Trailer Features Fan-Favorite X-Men Pet Dragon

The first trailer for Josh Boone’s The New Mutants sneakily featured the fan-favorite X-Men pet dragon Lockheed.

While fans are still excited over the most recent trailer for Josh Boone’s The New Mutants, there’s a surprise appearance from a fan-favorite character, Lockheed. While X-Men comic fans will already know that Lockheed is a long-time companion for Kitty Pryde, it seems that he’ll be partnering with Anya Taylor-Joy’s Illyana Rasputin in The New Mutants. The iconic dragon appears right at the end of the trailer, with many fans missing him completely.

The end of the trailer sees Magik fall through a portal and begin fighting Demon Bear outside a hospital. But as she runs towards the villain, Lockheed can be seen on Demon Bear’s left blasting him with a blue flame. Since the X-Men fan-favorite is quite small, it isn’t surprising that many fans missed his appearance, but a Reddit user slowed the clip down to focus on Lockheed in The New Mutants trailer. Here is the official synopsis for The New Mutants:

20th Century Fox in association with Marvel Entertainment presents “The New Mutants,” an original horror thriller set in an isolated hospital where a group of young mutants is being held for psychiatric monitoring. When strange occurrences begin to take place, both their new mutant abilities and their friendships will be tested as they battle to try and make it out alive.

Directed by Josh Boone from a script he co-wrote with Knate Lee, The New Mutants stars Maisie Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Heaton, Alice Braga, Blu Hunt, and Henry Zaga.

The New Mutants will be released in theaters on April 3, 2020.
