‘The Old Guard’ Star Kiki Layne On Why She Wants To Play X-Men Hero Storm

Kiki Layne's The Old Guard hit Netflix this weekend.

The Old Guard star Kiki Layne has discussed why she wants to play X-Men hero Storm.

Kiki Layne is quickly emerging as one of Hollywood’s breakout stars with appearances in hit films like If Beale Street Could Talk and the recently-released The Old Guard. With The Old Guard, Layne has cemented herself not only as an action star but also as someone who has experience playing a super-powered character. The star, however, has her eyes set on playing X-Men hero Storm, who will eventually be recast for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Whilst promoting The Old Guard, Kiki Layne told Rolling Stone why exactly she wants to play X-Men hero Storm.

“Storm is a goddess, and I feel like that has been missing. We’ve been downplaying how powerful she actually is.”

Storm was previously portrayed by Halle Berry in the original X-Men films. Berry portrayed Storm with the character’s native Kenyan accent for the first film in the franchise. Shortly after, the younger version of the character was played by Alexandra Shipp. Shipp’s take on the character saw Storm joining the Horsemen of Apocalypse as Famine. While both iterations of the character have been well received, The Old Guard star is correct in saying that the previous versions have never shown just how powerful the hero is.

Kiki Layne has been wanting to portray the X-Men hero for a long time. Early last year, Layne revealed that if she could play any superhero, it’d have to be Storm. The Old Guard star is so serious in playing Storm that her agents were “actively plotting” to get her the coveted role. With the MCU likely to recast the role of Storm for upcoming X-Men projects, Layne could potentially get the opportunity to play the powerful hero!
