Just as the virus which started it all, The Walking Dead universe continues to spread. With this said, adding to the impressive list of spin-offs, AMC has announced a third Walking Dead series. The series is set to premiere sometime in 2020. Here’s the synopsis:
“The third series in a franchise that includes the global hit series The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead will feature two young female protagonists and focus on the first generation to come-of-age in the apocalypse as we know it. Some will become heroes. Some will become villains. In the end, all of them will be changed forever, grown-up and cemented in their identities, both good and bad.”
The show is set to begin filming in Virginia this summer and will produce 10 full-length episodes. These episodes will be officially released sometime during the next year. Although most of the in-depth information has not been disclosed yet, this show is proposed to be one of the most unique approaches in the universe thus far. It is sure to harbor a myriad of incredible characters and stories along the way as well.
The series is being created by The Walking Dead‘s Chief Content Officer Scott M. Gimple and writer/ producer Matt Negrete. It will also be releasing shortly after the decade anniversary of the original series. On top of this, it will pay homage to 15 years of the comic book series.
It has not been disclosed whether characters will cross over from Fear the Walking Dead or The Walking Dead into this series. However, Scott M. Gimple was able to give this detail regarding the creation of the new series in the AMC release:
“Showing audiences an unseen pocket of The Walking Dead universe steeped in a new mythology is a very cool way to celebrate a ‘Decade of the Dead’ on TV and over 15 years of Robert Kirkman’s brilliant comic. Matt Negrete is one of the best writer-producers in TWD’s long history — I’m thrilled to be working beside him to tell stories unlike we’ve seen before, taking our first step into an even larger world.”
Most information regarding the overall storyline of the series, the characters, and the release date has not been discussed yet. Still, one thing is for sure: 2020 is sure to have an endless supply of new Walking Dead content for fans and series newcomers alike.
