SPOILERS: ‘The Walking Dead’ Confirms Major Michonne Theory

In the six years since Rick Grimes vanished from the world of The Walking Dead to parts unknown with Jadis, a lot of things changed in Alexandria. Newcomers have arrived, the Hilltop is under new management, Gabriel is looking to find others with his radio equipment, the walkers appear to be communicating, and Michonne has another mouth to feed. If you recall, before Rick left, he spoke with Michonne about making a future. Clearly that would come from another child.

And now, after last night’s episode, “Who Are You Now?,” that child has been revealed in the form of a young boy named R.J. During the episode, when new character Magna approached Michonne’s home, she spotted Michonne with a young child who wasn’t Judith. More than that, it was also a boy. So it appears that this was indeed the child created by Rick and Michonne. And yes, again, the child is named R.J., Rick Jr.

R.J. doesn’t have many scenes in the episode. His appearance is merely to show viewers that he’s there, but with now two children under her belt, Michonne has a lot more to fight for, which would offer one explanation as to why she’s standoffish to Magna and her new team when they arrive in Alexandria. We don’t know when exactly Michonne gave birth to R.J., and for story purposes, it’s not really important. Especially since R.J. is already walking around and talking as well. But like Carl before her, now Judith has someone to look after.

And given how Judith is technically Shane’s child and a product of Rick and Lori or Michonne, now the Grimes legacy can officially live on in Rick’s actual spawn. Plus, even though it’s not in the cards now, but if Rick were ever to return to the world of The Walking Dead, perhaps he would be pleasantly surprised that there’s another Grimes out there to carry on his name. He’ll have to find out if R.J. knows his way around a Colt Python, though.

What did you think of the reveal of Rick and Michonne’s child on the latest episode of The Walking Dead? And what did you think of the episode now that Rick Grimes has exited? Let us know in the comments below.

The Walking Dead airs on Sunday nights at 9 P.M. on AMC.
