Let’s flash back to Thor: Ragnarok for a moment. Despite being no doubt the lightest, tonally, of the Thor films, there’s a lot of tragic things that happen. Odin is gone, the Warriors Three are dead, Asgard is gone. Oh, and Thor lost an eye, but there are ways around that. But in a way, going into Avengers: Infinity War, you could say that Thor walked into that film as a warrior of sorts that’s left to wander. And that’s a not too-subtle or even clever or even good way of discussing today’s story of concept art.
Yesterday, Rodney Fuentebella, a concept illustrator at Marvel Studios, took to his Instagram to share a photo of an early concept illustration he did for Thor’s look in Avengers: Infinity War, with the final work being done by Ryan Meinerding, another concept artist at Marvel Studios. Per Fuentebella’s description: “Here is a early concept illustration I did of Thor for Avengers Infinity War. I wanted to go for the wondering warrior look. Learned a lot in this project and had such a blast! Final look of Thor was done by @ryan_meinerding_art Enjoy!”
Here, have a look at the wandering warrior look for Thor in Infinity War in the post below:
He actually looks a bit like how Bishop looked in X-Men: Days of Future Past, and while Hemsworth’s look in Infinity War looked very similar to what’s been presented in both his standalone films and the Avengers films themselves, it’s an interesting design that no doubt would have been a change of pace compared to what we’ve seen for the Asgardian in previous outings.
Still, though, who is to say that we couldn’t get this look for the god in Avengers: Untitled and beyond? Assuming he survives, anyway? What do you think of the concept art and would you have wanted to see the god of thunder take on this look in Infinity War? Let us know in the comments below.
Avengers: Infinity War is available now on Digital HD, 4K, Blu-Ray, and DVD.
