‘Thor’ Comic Book Writer Takes Shot At ‘Batman’ Day

Thor comic writer Jason Aaron pokes fun at the concept of Batman Day by making a simple, harmless observation.

Yesterday, September 21, 2019, marked the 80th Anniversary of the Batman franchise, which is something that’s recognized as Batman Day in the fan community. Jason Aaron deduced that Batman gets one day out of 365 dedicated to himself, but Thor Odinson must be luckier. After all, the word “Thursday” is derived from “Thor’s Day” in old English, so that must mean that Thor has about 52 days to himself every year!

Check out his joke below:

While some may take Jason Aaron’s remarks as a slight against Batman, it should be noted that the longtime Thor writer has worked within the context of the Batman universe before with the one-shot Joker’s Asylum: Penguin. He’s also worked with DC under the now-defunct Vertigo Comics label on HellblazerThe Other Side, and Scalped. So it’s all in good fun, with no hard feelings, and a bit of a flex of knowledge for the writer who has been in charge of the Thor mythos since 2012. His run on the title will end with the King Thor miniseries, which has already begun and is set to end in December.

As far as film adaptations go, Batman will next appear in the Matt Reeves movie The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson, which is rumored to involve multiple antagonists. An alternate version of Bruce Wayne will appear in this October’s Joker, portrayed by child actor Dante Pereira-Olson.

Meanwhile, Thor will return alongside Jane Foster, now under the alias Mighty Thor, in director Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder. That movie draws inspiration from Jason Aaron’s run, and will star Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, and Tessa Thompson’s Vakyrie. It’s speculated that Thor may also appear in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but this has not been confirmed by Marvel Studios or by director James Gunn.
