‘Thor: Ragnarok’: The ‘Friend From Work’ Line Has A Surprising Origin

Chris Hemsworth has revealed the origins of the now infamous line from the first Thor: Ragnarok trailer. After realizing that Bruce Banner/Hulk will be his foe in the stadium, Thor exclaims in excitement, stating that “He’s a friend from work!”.

The final line in the trailer was greatly received and it made sense that Marvel would want to capitalize on the best part of the trailer. The second trailer that debuted at Marvel’s panel immediately picked up after that line and built up on the Hulk/Thor dynamic duo.

With everyone still excited about the two Thor: Ragnarok trailers, EW had the chance to speak to the cast of the film and Chris Hemsworth dished some interesting news regarding the line from the first trailer.

“We had a young kid, a Make-A-Wish kid on set that day. He goes, ‘You know, you should say, ‘He’s a friend from work!’”

It looks like we have a future screenwriter at work because that young kid is likely responsible for one of the most memorable lines in the MCU.

Directed by Taika Waititi, Thor: Ragnarok stars Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Cate Blanchett, Tom Hiddleston, Tessa Thompson, Idris Elba, Karl Urban, Anthony Hopkins, and Jeff Goldblum.

Imprisoned on the other side of the universe, the mighty Thor (Chris Hemsworth) finds himself in a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), his former ally and fellow Avenger. Thor’s quest for survival leads him in a race against time to prevent the all-powerful Hela (Cate Blanchett) from destroying his home world and the Asgardian civilization.

Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters November 3, 2017.
