‘Thor: Ragnarok’: Japanese Title Teases A Big Battle

With the release of Spider-Man: Homecoming now behind them, Marvel Studios can now turn their focus to their next big release. Thor: Ragnarok, the third chapter in the Thunder God saga, is expected to dig in even deeper to the Norse mythology fans have come to expect from the series.

Thanks to an Instagram post from Marvel Comics writer C.B. Cebulski, it has been revealed that the title for Ragnarok has been adapted for Japanese audiences. The film will be released there as Mighty Thor: Battle Royale, as in Japan ‘Ragnarok’ is an unfamiliar term. You can check out the post from Cebulski below.

This change in title internationally might just be a clue as to what fans can expect from this installment. Given the meaning of ‘Ragnarok’ which is a series of future events in Norse Mythology, taken with the ‘Battle Royale’ change, suggests an exciting action centerpiece for the film.

Directed by Taika WaititiThor: Ragnarok stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson, Karl Urban, Mark Ruffalo and Anthony Hopkins. Here’s the official synopsis:

In Marvel Studios’ “Thor: Ragnarok“, Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok – the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization – at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladictorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger – the Incredible Hulk!

Thor: Ragnarok is set for release on November 3, 2017 in both the United States and Japan.
