Director Taika Waititi has confirmed that next year's Thor: Ragnarok will be set partly on Sakaar, a key location from the Planet Hulk storyline.
We’ve seen footage from the first two movies, but not Ragnarok. We do know plenty of things about the God of Thunder’s next standalone movie, though, including that it will feature Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk and several elements from the Planet Hulk storyline, with key characters such as Miek set to make an appearance. Now, it’s been confirmed that an important location from the comic book storyline will be featured in the movie.
In a recent interview with Total Film, Waititi revealed that the movie will be set partly on Sakaar, which is where the titular character will reunite with the Green Goliath:
“Sakaar was just an insane, far-off, futuristic place which was the biggest shift for the film and these characters.”
In the comics, Sakaar is where Hulk ended up after being sent away from Earth by the Illuminati, as well as the home of the Red King’s gladiatorial arena. We got our first look at the Hulk’s gladiatorial armor back in San Diego Comic-Con this past July, so now the only thing that remains is for us to see him in action. Maybe in the first trailer?
