How ‘Thor: The Dark World’ Test Screenings Changed Loki’s Fate

It appears that test screenings audience members for Thor: The Dark World were not happy with Loki’s alternate fate.

Loki has become an iconic character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after the charismatic portrayal of the character by Tom Hiddleston. Tom Hiddleston’s Loki has become a favorite among fans and after his villainous performance it appears that some fans were not ready to let go of the character. Loki himself, Tom Hiddleston, sat down with Empire to answer a few questions from fans and this is what he had to say about the test screenings for Thor: The Dark World that changed Loki’s fate:

“Loki’s death on Svartalfheim was written as a death. Chris and I played that scene for real. That was meant to be that he redeemed himself, that he helped save his brother and save Jane Foster but that he in the process sacrificed himself. It was something that was written, it was part of the original pitch. In test screenings, the audience didn’t accept it. There was a very strange and almost unanimous resistance to it.”

It seems Loki was meant to carry out the ultimate sacrifice for his brother Thor and Jane Foster. It was a moment where the character planned to redeem himself, but it seems test audiences did not enjoy the original idea of this being the last time they saw Loki.

What do you think of Loki’s original fate? Do you hope to see the God of Mischief once again? Share your thoughts below!
