Tobey Maguire was the titular webslinger in director Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy. The franchise was part of the first Golden Age of superhero films in the early 2000s. While the hugely successful trilogy may have ended on a less than spectacular note, Spider-Man 2 is still regarded as one of the best superhero films of all time.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the former Spider-Man actor was asked if he would ever return to superhero genre of films. The actor’s response was vague, yet still positive.
“I just don’t really have an “I would or wouldn’t do” mindset. I’ll just do whatever. … Whatever it is that comes that I feel called to, that may or may not fit in any kind of box.”
On top of that, Tobey Maguire has also given his opinions on the other silver screen wall crawlers that appeared after him. In the 12 years since Tobey Maguire last wore the mask, the webhead has appeared in 5 live-action films. Two times in the short-lived The Amazing Spider-Man franchise featuring Andrew Garfield and in three Marvel Cinematic Universe films featuring Tom Holland, with a fourth on the way later this year.
“I haven’t seen all of them. What I’ve seen, I’ve appreciated. I like both of the actors a ton. I think they’re both super talented. I would just say I appreciated them and I like the actors, I like the choices.”
With Tobey Maguire seemingly in positive spirits about a potential heroic return, is there a potential for him to appear in Spider-Man: Far From Home sequel? Mysterio actor Jake Gyllenhaal was once almost attached to the Sam Raimi trilogy. Perhaps, Tobey Maguire could make his return to the genre in a future sequel alongside Tom Holland.
