Tom Cruise’s ‘Mission: Impossible’ 7 & 8 Pushed Back Due To Coronavirus

Paramount Pictures has pushed back the release dates of Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible 7 and 8 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The seventh and eighth installments of the Mission: Impossible film series were set to film back-to-back, with the next entry gearing to start production in Venice, Italy. However, the coronavirus pandemic forced production on the Tom Cruise project to shut down indefinitely and it remains unclear when any Hollywood production will be able to safely resume filming.

Now, Paramount Pictures has announced that Mission: Impossible 7, originally scheduled to be released in theaters on July 23, 2021, has been pushed back to November 19 of the same year. Furthermore, the release date of the eighth chapter of the Tom Cruise film series has been pushed back from August 5, 2022, to November 4, 2022.

Yesterday, it was reported that Tom Cruise hopes to resume production on the seventh installment of the film series in June. However, travel restrictions and the effort to establish new regulations to keep film sets coronavirus free may hinder those ambitions. Furthermore, the filmmakers are reportedly trying to decide if they should scrap the Italy shoot altogether and turn to a new location or push filming in Venice to fall when health experts warn the coronavirus could return should if follow a similar trajectory as the Spanish flu of 1918.

Written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie, Mission: Impossible 7 stars Tom Cruise, Rebecca Ferguson, Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, Shea Whigham, Nicholas Hoult, Vanessa Kirby, and Henry Czerny.
