Michelle Williams Talks Returning For Tom Hardy ‘Venom’ Sequel

While at Sundance, Michelle Williams opened up on the possibility of returning for the Venom sequel starring Tom Hardy as the iconic Spider-Man villain.

The Spider-Man spin-off featured Tom Hardy in the starring role of the reporter-turned-Spider-Man nemesis, Eddie Brock. The film is the first attempt to expand Sony’s Universe of Spider-Man characters, telling the origin story for Venom, inspired by the Lethal Protector and Planet of the Symbiotes comic book runs.

Williams made her comic book debut in the role of Anne Weying, Eddie Brock’s love interest also known as She-Venom. Speaking with MTV News at the Sundance Film Festival, Williams was asked about the film’s tremendous financial success, managing $855 million worldwide, and possibly returning for another outing as Anne Weying, or possibly even She-Venom to which she joked that she’s going to to get paid whether or not they bring her back as the actress is signed on for a sequel:

“Well, they have to pay me either way so…”

Sony is currently moving forward with a Venom sequel which is expected to star Tom Hardy. Woody Harrelson is also expected to reprise his role as Spider-Man villain Cletus Kassidy aka Carnage, who was teased in the film’s post credit scene. Venom scribe Kelly Marcel has been tapped to pen the sequel, however, Sony may be looking for a replacement for director Ruben Fleischer as he is currently busy directing the Zombieland sequel.

Directed by Ruben Fleischer from a script by Jeff Pinkner & Scott Rosenberg and Kelly Marcel, the film stars Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze, Reid Scott, Jenny Slate, Ron Cephas Jones, and Woody Harrelson.

One of Marvel’s greatest and most complex characters takes center stage as Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) becomes the host for the alien symbiote Venom. As a journalist, Eddie has been trying to take down the notorious founder of the Life Foundation, genius Carlton Drake (Riz Ahmed) – and that obsession ruined his career and his relationship with his girlfriend, Anne Weying (Michelle Williams).

Upon investigating one of Drake’s experiments, the alien Venom merges with Eddie’s body, and he suddenly has incredible new superpowers, as well as the chance to do just about whatever he wants. Twisted, dark, unpredictable, and fueled by rage, Venom leaves Eddie wrestling to control dangerous abilities that he also finds empowering and intoxicating. As Eddie and Venom need each other to get what they’re looking for, they become more and more intertwined — where does Eddie end and Venom begin?

Venom is now available on Digital HD and on 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack, Blu-ray Combo Pack, and DVD on December 18.
