Tom Holland On Spider-Man’s Ultimate Goal Of Becoming An Avenger

The Spider-Man that we’ll be seeing in the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming will be the third big screen iteration of the character. There are a few big differences between Tom Holland’s version and those that came before him, but the major things that make this Spidey unique all stem from the fact that he is part of the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In an interview with Yahoo Movies, Tom Holland spoke about what makes his version stand apart from the previous iterations:

“I think the difference now is that Peter Parker finally has an all-time goal, and his goal is to become an Avenger. Everything he does, even though he’s doing it for the right reasons, is done so that one day he can become an Avenger and prove himself to Tony Stark. And I think we’ve never really seen Spider-Man with that kind of motivation before.”

Directed by Jon Watts, the film stars Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Zendaya, Tony Revolori, Donald Glover, Bokeem Woodbine, Michael Chernus, Kenneth Choi, Hannibal Buress, Martin Starr, Michael Barbieri, Angourie Rice, Abraham Attah, Tyne Daly, Marisa Tomei and Robert Downey Jr.

A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.

Spider-Man: Homecoming hits theaters July 7, 2017.
