While North Americans audiences will have to wait until next week to see Spider-Man: Far From Home, the Tom Holland film debuted in China on Friday an earned an estimated total of $35.5 million that includes the $3.2 million gross from midnight Thursday screenings. The Friday gross sets Spider-Man: Far From Home on course for a $100 million-plus opening weekend in China and outperformed the opening day total of Tom Holland’s first solo outing as the wall-crawler, Homecoming.
With the midnight Thursday screenings factored in, Spider-Man: Far From Home earned the title of best opening day ever in China, besting the previous record set by Venom last year. The Tom Holland film has also become China’s number one standalone superhero debut as well as 3rd best superhero opening behind Avengers: Endgame and its predecessor, Infinity War.
