‘Spider-Man’ Star Tom Holland Thinks Iron Man Is Peter’s New Uncle Ben

During an interview with Uproxx, Spider-Man: Far From Home star Tom Holland discussed how Iron Man has taken up the role in Peter Parker’s life that is traditionally filled by Uncle Ben.

When Marvel Studios and Sony made the landmark deal that would see the studios co-producing new Spider-Man films set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, both companies set out to make sure this new incarnation of the wall-crawler was unlike any other previous on-screen version. This decision resulted in the new Spider-Man films bypassing the well-known origin of the web-slinger and introducing Tom Holland’s Peter Parker to audiences after the death of Uncle Ben.

However, Tom Holland’s Peter Parker found a surrogate father in Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man, who recruited Spider-Man for his first official superhero mission in Captain America: Civil War and created the young hero’s classic costume. Of course, Iron Man nobly sacrificed himself during the final of Avengers: Endgame and Tom Holland commented on how his death will impact Peter in a similar way Uncle Ben’s passing traditionally affects the character in the comics:

“I think he probably was. I think he probably was, you know? I think he was very, very much took on the mantle as his father figure, and losing him is a huge blow to Peter Parker obviously. And that’s what’s so nice about Mysterio kind of flying in is that he can fill those shoes a little bit and be Peter Parker’s mentor and his big brother at the same time.”

Fans will be able to see how Tom Holland’s Peter Parker copes with the death of Iron Man when Spider-Man: Far From Home hits theaters next week.

Do you feel Iron Man filled the role of Uncle Ben in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Do you think Iron Man’s death will impact Tom Holland’s Peter Parker in the same way as Uncle Ben’s passing? Do you want to see Uncle Ben in the MCU someday? Let us know in the comments!
