According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dominic West (The Wire, The Affair) has been cast as the titular character’s long-missing father, Lord Richard Croft, in the upcoming reboot, which recently begun production.
West joins a cast that so far includes Academy Award winner Alicia Vikander as a young Lara, Walton Goggins as the main antagonist, and Daniel Wu as Lu Ren, a ship captain who teams up with Vikander’s character on a quest to find her father.
Back in November of 2016, producer Graham King spoke with HeyUGuys about the film’s story, which follows Lara on her very first mission:
“Well this is kind of what we call a ‘back to the roots story’. This is a young Lara Croft in search to see if her father is dead or alive, so it has a very emotional part to it and I think that’s what Alicia found so interesting about it. I think the storytelling is really good and I think we’ve got the right crew and a great director and I think it’s going to be really fun making a film like this.”
Tomb Raider opens in theaters on March 16, 2018.
