Disney Pixar Chief John Lasseter No Longer Directing ‘Toy Story 4’

Disney Animation and Pixar chief John Lasseter has revealed he will no longer be directing the fourth installment of the Toy Story franchise.

The announcement came during the D23 Expo in Anaheim, CA. Lasseter revealed he would no longer be directing the project as co-director Josh Cooley was announced to be taking over as the solo helmer. While Lasseter will no longer be directing, he will, however, remain attached to produce the project.

Cooley, who worked as a storyboard artist at Pixar and co-wrote the script of Inside Out, was also revealed along with Jonas Rivera to be the first ever Pixar interns to become director and producer for a full feature film with the new Toy Story.

Plot details are limited but it is known that Toy Story 4 will pick up where Toy Story 3 left off, with Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the rest of the toys handed down to a little girl named Bonnie as it features a love story between Woody and Bo Peep.

The film stars Tim Allen, Tom Hanks, Annie Potts, Patricia Arquette and Joan Cusack. The script was written by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack from a story idea by John Lasseter, Andrew Stanton, Pete Docter, and Lee Unkrich.

Toy Story 4 hits theaters Summer 2019.
