Though, if you think about it, the toys have hit the road several times already. Woody and Buzz had an adventure in the first film- being stuck with Sid notwithstanding. When Woody was stolen in Toy Story 2, some of the other toys had to travel on foot in order to retrieve him back from Al. And in the third, they nearly ended up burned to a crisp before being rescued by the crane. With that all settled, where do things go from there in Toy Story 4 when Disney and Pixar’s fourth installment hits theaters next summer?
Well, Andy is gone and the toys are now under the eye of Bonnie, who has added a toy to the roster. Since Buzz first touched down on Andy’s bed in the first film, Woody and the gang are no stranger to new toys. More than that, their adventures have shown them just how much larger the world can be outside of Andy’s bedroom. As such, here’s the official synopsis for Toy Story 4:
“Woody has always been confident about his place in the world and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie. But when Bonnie adds a reluctant new toy called “Forky” to her room, a road trip adventure alongside old and new friends will show Woody how big the world can be for a toy. Directed by Josh Cooley (Riley’s First Date?) and produced by Jonas Rivera (Inside Out, Up) and Mark Nielsen (associate producer Inside Out), Disney•Pixar’s Toy Story 4 ventures to U.S. theaters on June 21, 2019.”
Given Forky’s freak out in the newly released teaser trailer and proclamation that he’s not a toy, we’ll see how reluctant he turns out to be and whether Woody and pals can change his mind on what sounds like one heck of a road trip. As long as they don’t end up driving past the spot where Emily dropped off Jessie in the flashback of the second Toy Story film. I’m sure that Jessie doesn’t need or want reminders of that painful experience.
But hey, new owner, new friend, new adventures, and a chance to see the world on a larger scale than seen in prior films. What do you hope for in Toy Story 4? And what do you make of new character “Forky” so far based on the teaser trailer? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
