Colin Trevorrow On His Involvement With ‘Jurassic World 2’

Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow has opened up on his involvement with the upcoming Jurassic World sequel which is currently in production.

Trevorrow exited the project as director to helm Star Wars: Episode IX, however, he returns to exec produce the sequel along with Steven Spielberg and Thomas Tull. Trevorrow also co-wrote the script with his writing partner Derek Connolly. Directing instead is J.A. Bayona (A Monster Calls).

Although Trevorrow has spent the last few months switching gears in between developing Episode IX and polishing the script for Jurassic World 2, he was actually quite involved with the production of the Jurassic Sequel. While promoting his new film The Book of Henry, Trevorrow revealed to Coming Soon that he spent a lot more time on the project than he originally anticipated:

“Jurassic ended up taking up more time and attention than I expected just because I care about it so much. I surprised myself by how much I wanted to be there for J.A. [Bayona], just as a writer. I remember directing a Jurassic Park movie and how much I would have loved to have a writer to think about the dailies and wonder what alterations we could make that would make it that much more effective. I was there with him every day to try and provide something for him that I didn’t have myself.”

Plot details on the upcoming sequel are still under wraps but both Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will be returning as Owen and Claire as the franchise continues the storyline of weaponized dinosaurs introduced in Jurassic World. The sequel has added Toby Jones, Rafe Spall, Daniella Pineda, Justice Smith, Ted Levine, Geraldine Chaplin and James Cromwell into the mix.

Jeff Goldblum will also be returning to appear as the self-professed “chaotician” Dr. Ian Malcolm for the sequel and BD Wong will once again appear as Dr. Henry Wu.

Jurassic World 2 is currently slated to hit theaters on June 22, 2018.
