‘Tron: Legacy’ Director Gives Update On Potential Sequel

Joseph Kosinski, the director behind 2010's Tron: Legacy has given an update regarding the film's potential sequel that would star Jared Leto.

Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski has updated fans on the potential continuation of the Tron franchise.

With Kosinski’s latest film Only The Brave hitting theatres, the director was asked by ComingSoon regarding the future of the franchise. The proposed future entry in the franchise was titled Tron: Ascension. It was later revealed that Jared Leto was being eyed to star in a potential reboot that would rework the proposed script:

“Jared and I had actually been talking about Tron since Tron: Legacy back in 2009. We almost put him in that movie, actually in [the End of Line club scene]! So Jared’s a huge fan and we actually batted around ideas and I was talking to him about that role in Ascension, but we only got to the script stage on that. We never really moved beyond that and that’s sort of where it sits for now.”

It’s interesting to see how the project has remained stationary ever since Tron: Legacy’s 2010 debut. The film wasn’t considered to be a huge success, but it received considerable acclaim from both fans and critics. However, it makes sense that Disney doesn’t think of Tron as a priority, considering they have the wildly successful Star Wars and Marvel Cinematic Universe under their belt.

Joseph Kosinski’s latest directorial effort Only The Brave is the director’s first non-sci-fi film.

All men are created equal… then, a few become firefighters. Only the Brave, based on the true story of the Granite Mountain Hotshots, is the heroic story of one unit of local firefighters that through hope, determination, sacrifice, and the drive to protect families, communities, and our country become one of the most elite firefighting teams in the country. As most of us run from danger, they run toward it–they watch over our lives, our homes, everything we hold dear, as they forge a unique brotherhood that comes into focus with one fateful fire.

Only The Brave stars Miles Teller, Josh Brolin, Taylor Kitsch, Jennifer Connelly, and Jeff Bridges and is currently in theatres.
