‘True Detective’ Creator Nic Pizzolatto Wants A Shot At Adapting Batman

True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto revealed he would love to have a shot at adapting Batman.

In 2014, Nic Pizzolatto’s True Detective debuted on HBO and the first season of anthology crime drama received acclaim before earning numerous awards. Now, Pizzolatto has revealed that the only character he wants a shot at that he didn’t originally create is the World’s Greatest Detective, Batman.

In a post on his official Instagram account, Nic Pizzolatto offered details on his interpretation of Batman and how he believes the Caped Crusader should retain his “no-kill policy.” However, the True Detective creator noted that he feels the “no-kill” policy is essential to the character because death is his real enemy and added that he disagrees with the common depiction of Batman being a damaged man struggling to cope with the death of his parents. According to Nic Pizzolatto, Batman’s story is one of turning a tragedy into “the pinnacle of human achievement” and embarking on the greatest humanitarian crusade.

Of course, True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto will likely have to wait until Matt Reeves finished his take on the Caped Crusader. Full plot details on The Batman are currently under wraps, though the film is known to center around a younger Bruce Wayne and feature a Rogues’ Gallery of villains that includes Catwoman, The Penguin, and The Riddler. Following the Caped Crusader during his formative years as Gotham City’s protector, the film will make use of the Dark Knight’s detective skills to a greater extent than previous adaptations. It is expected to be the first chapter in a new trilogy with Robert Pattinson as Batman.

Directed by Matt Reeves from a script he co-wrote with Mattson Tomlin, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin. The Batman is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on June 25, 2021.
