Last year, it was reported that Shawn Levy is no longer attached to helm Sony’s adaptation of the Uncharted video game as the filmmaker has shifted his focus to directing 20th Century Fox’s video game action-comedy Free Guy. Now, Dan Trachtenberg has been tapped to direct the Uncharted film for Sony, with the studio having reportedly been eager to work with the filmmaker since 10 Cloverfield Lane was released in 2016.
Based on the PlayStation video game series of the same name, the Uncharted film is set to star Spider-Man actor Tom Holland as a young Nathan Drake and chronicles his first encounter with the fortune seeker and businessman Victor Sullivan. The film reportedly takes influence from a sequence in Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception.
Joe Carnahan (The Grey) penned a draft of the script, which he described as an R-rated take that remained faithful to the adult language used in the games. However, a new writer was said to be sought after Sony decided to rework to project to center on a young Nathan Drake.
Uncharted is being produced by Charles Roven, Avi Arad, Alex Gartner, and Ari Arad.
