Marvel Studios' President Kevin Feige explains why Spider-Man character (Uncle Ben) won't appear in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
In an interview with Cinema Blend, Marvel head Kevin Feige talked about Uncle Ben’s omission.
“The truth is, we want audiences to bring their own… let them fill in the blanks right now. They’ve seen the other films. They’ve read comics. They can fill that in. That was a very purposeful decision we made not to retread that ground. There are little things that are said here and there that people can read into. What the specific facts are in the past, we don’t… we haven’t revealed yet.”
Spider-Man’s origin has been told many times through all types of media – so it’s not surprising that they went this route. They have left the door open to explore in future films. Until then, we’ll have to fill in the blanks ourselves.
The film features a cast that includes Tom Holland as Peter Parker (Spider-Man), Robert Downey Junior as Tony Stark (Iron Man), Zendaya Coleman as Michelle, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, Tony Revolori as “Flash” Thompson, Laura Harrier as Liz Allan, Marisa Tomei as May Parker, Jon Favreau as Harold “Happy” Hogan, Michael Keaton as Adrian Toomes (Vulture), Bokeem Woodbine as Herman Schultz (Shocker), and Michael Chernus as Phineas Mason (Tinkerer).
For more news on Spider-Man: Homecoming stay tuned. Spider-Man: Homecoming swings into theaters on July 7, 2017. A sequel is planned for release on July 5, 2019.
