‘Venom’ Eyes $500 Million Worldwide Mark In Fourth Weekend

Sony’s latest Marvel adaptation Venom has been performing surprisingly well at the box office both domestically and internationally ever since it opened to theaters earlier this month. The film, which stars Academy Award-nominee Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock is about to enter its fourth weekend, and it has its eyes on the $500 million mark in worldwide tallies.

At this point, Venom has grossed $175.3 million domestically and has led the international box office for three weeks in a row. The film has grossed $28.9 million in Korea, $28.8 million in Russia, $22.5 million in the U.K., $21.7 million in Mexico and $15.8 million in Brazil.

With a budget ranging from $100 – 116 million, the film needed to gross $450 million to break even. Now that it’s been nearly four weeks, the film continues to financially succeed and should encourage Sony with their upcoming Spider-Man spinoff films as well as a potential sequel to Venom.

Venom follows Eddie Brock as he attempts to revive his journalism career by investigating the Life Foundation only to come into with an alien symbiote that bonds with him, granting him powers and transforming him into the titular anti-hero.

Directed by Ruben Fleischer from a script written by Jeff Pinkner & Scott Rosenberg and Kelly Marcel, Venom stars Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze, Reid Scott, Jenny Slate, Ron Cephas Jones, and Woody Harrelson.
