‘Venom’ Features Sly Nod To This Marvel Character

Venom featured plenty of cameos and Easter eggs for fans of the comics to discover but one voice cameo seems to have gone unnoticed until now.

Venom hit theaters this weekend to a record-breaking opening gross of $80 million in the United Sates. The film may have gotten mixed-to-negative reviews from critics but moviegoers seem to have responded to the Marvel anti-hero’s origin film quite well. The film has already earned over $200 million worldwide and now that many Marvel fans have seen it, plenty of Easter eggs are slowly being discovered and revealed across social media. The latest cameo that’s been discovered belongs to an iconic Marvel character who acts as the publisher of a major news source, but it’s not who you’re thinking.

J. Jonah Jameson’s son and The Daily Bugle may have been referenced in Venom but one news publisher, in particular, made a voiceover cameo. The voice belongs to none other than Barney Bushkin, publisher at the Daily Globe. In the film, after Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) has fallen on hard times, he struggles to find work. Eventually, he looks through his phone and comes across the name Barney Bushkin. Eddie calls Bushkin and the two have a brief back-and-forth in which Bushkin reveals that he has nothing new for Eddie to work on.

The Daily Globe is featured in the comics as a place where both Eddie Brock and Peter Parker have worked at one point. In the comics, the Daily Globe and Bushkin, in particular, are rivals of Jameson’s iconic paper, The Daily Bugle. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on all news regarding Venom as more information becomes available. Did you enjoy Venom? What Easter eggs or cameos did you catch? Directed by Ruben Fleischer and written by Scott Rosenberg, Jeff Pinkner and Kelly Marcel, Venom stars Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock, Michelle Williams, Scott Haze, Jenny Slate and Riz Ahmed, with Woody Harrelson.
