The new Venom film seems to have followed the character’s look closer to its comic book source, but there seemed to be one detail missing. The film version of the character was not born out of a Spider-Man story and was missing the spider logo on the chest many fans have become familiar with. Although the famous white spider logo was nowhere to be seen in the film, that does not completely rule out the possibility of it showing up in future sequels.
In one of the new Venom Blu-ray special features, Venom co-writer Jeff Pinkner reveals that the possibility of it ever appearing is still there. Here’s what Pinkner says:
“One of the things that sparked outrage is the fact that Venom does not have a big Spider-Man emblem across his chest. In a movie, where Spider-Man exists in the universe, but does not exist in our story, it would make no sense. This is not say that in a future movie down the line that a symbiote and Spider-Man might not share a moment and that symbiote might end up with a Spider-Man emblem splashed across its chest.”
According to Pinkner, Spider-Man could exist in the same universe that Venom inhabits. Pinkner explains that Venom could not have the spider logo fans know without a symbiote interacting with the famous web-slinger. This creates the possibility of both characters meeting at some point which also maintains the possibility of the classic spider logo showing up for Venom in future films.
What is interesting about Pinkner’s comments is that he mentions that “a symbiote” could meet Spider-Man and create the Spider-Man logo. The possibility of either Venom or a different symbiote gaining the logo is there for future sequels. This would only make sense as the symbiote itself interacting with Spider-Man is what helps it gain the spider logo.
Directed by Ruben Fleischer from a script co-written by Jeff Pinkner, Scott Rosenberg, and Kelly Marcel, Venom stars Tom Hardy, Riz Ahmed, Michelle Williams, and Scott Haze.
Venom tells the evolution story of Marvel’s most enigmatic, complex and badass character – Venom! Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) is a broken man after he loses everything including his job and fiancee. Just when his life is at its lowest, he becomes host to an alien symbiote which results in extraordinary superpowers – transforming him into Venom. Will these powers be enough for this new lethal protector to defeat great evil forces, especially against the far stronger and more weaponized symbiote rival, Riot?
Venom is now available on Blu-Ray, DVD, and Digital HD.
