‘Venom’ Start Of Production To Be Delayed One Month

The first of the Spider-Man spinoff films from Sony Pictures, Venom, is not going to get rolling in front of cameras on time.

Omega Underground reports that the film, which was scheduled to begin production in Atlanta on September 1st, will now go in front of the cameras on October 23rd. One main reason is that due to a large number of productions currently filming in Atlanta, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find available crews to work the film.

This is not expected to delay the film, which is still scheduled for release on October 5th, 2018.

Sony’s Venom is a standalone Spider-Man spinoff, separate from the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Tom Hardy in the starring role as the reporter turned Spider-Man nemesis, Eddie Brock. Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer is set to helm the project from a script being written by Scott Rosenberg (Jumanji) and Jeff Pinkner (The Dark Tower). Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach and Amy Pascal are producing.

The film currently in pre-production has been confirmed to be an origin story of sorts for Venom with Fleischer likening the dynamic between Brock and the Symbiote to that of Jekyll and Hyde. It is unclear whether the Symbiote is the result of a virus or will remain true to its alien origins but if the film takes influence from Ultimate Spider-Man as did the recent Spider-Man: Homecoming, it would be possible the Symbiote could be a living organism created from Spider-Man’s DNAalthough Peter Parker himself, Tom Holland is unlikely to have any involvement with the current project.
