‘Venom’ VFX Supervisor Reveals Why The Symbiotes Come To Earth

Venom VFX supervisor Paul Franklin has revealed why the symbiotes come to Earth in the new Spider-Man-less origin starring Tom Hardy.

Sony’s upcoming Venom film will be the character’s first live-action appearance since 2007’s Spider-Man 3. The 2007 film featured a comic book accurate origin of Venom, with Eddie Brock obtaining the symbiote from Spider-Man. The character will have a new origin in Venom with no Spider-Man and IGN talked to Franklin, who explained why the symbiotes come to Earth in the film:

“We see, at the beginning of the film, the moment when the symbiotes are collected up by a Life Foundation space probe, which finds them on a comet drifting through space, approaching Earth. And the space probe is out there looking for signs of life, and they can’t believe their luck. There’s life signals everywhere, all across this asteroid. The symbiotes seem to actively want to be collected. Because it’s all part of their plan to come to Earth. They’re looking for planets where they can find hosts to inhabit. They’ve never really found a place where they can exist in harmony with the life forms of whatever planet they find themselves on.”

Directed by Ruben Fleischer and written by Scott Rosenberg, Jeff Pinkner and Kelly Marcel, Venom stars Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock, Michelle Williams, Scott Haze, Jenny Slate and Riz Ahmed, with Woody Harrelson.

Venom is set to hit theaters on October 5, 2018.
