‘Venom’ Hits $822 Million Worldwide, Outgrosses ‘Wonder Woman’

Venom may not have earned as much as Wonder Woman in the U.S., but the worldwide numbers are another story.

When Venom was released in the U.S., it was met with mixed reception. Word of mouth from critics earned it a 29% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes while audiences seemed to think otherwise. Fans earned the Marvel/Sony anti-hero origin film the highest opening weekend ever in October, and that was only the beginning of its incredible box office run.

Since opening in early October, Venom has ruled the worldwide box office week after week and according to Exhibitor Relations Co.Venom has officially raked in $822 million at the worldwide box office. Thanks to the $21.3 million that it earned internationally this weekend, Venom has officially out-earned Wonder Woman at the worldwide box office. The DC solo adventure hit big with critics and audiences alike upon its release in 2017, but that wasn’t enough to hold off the power of Venom.

Sony recently slated two unnamed Marvel movies for release in 2020, but which movies those are have yet to be revealed. It’s presumed that it’s Venom 2 and the Jared Leto Morbius; the Living Vampire film, but Sony has yet to make an official title announcement for either date just yet.

We’ll be sure to keep you updated on all news regarding Venom and its impressive box office run as soon as more information becomes available. Do you prefer Venom to Wonder Woman?
