Viggo Mortensen Becomes Ra’s Al Ghul For The DCEU In New Image

Lord of the Rings star Viggo Mortensen becomes Ra’s al Ghul for the DCEU in this stunning new image that imagines the future of the cinematic franchise.

Ra’s al Ghul is one of Batman’s more well-known villains in his Rogue’s Gallery. Aside from comics, Ra’s al Ghul has been in various different versions of DC media, he’s played by Matt Nable in Arrow, Liam Neeson in Batman Begins, and Alexander Siddig in Gotham. He’s also been in plenty of the animated films and Batman: The Animated Series. However, we have yet to get a Ra’s al Ghul for the official DCEU. In this image, actor Viggo Mortensen grasps a blade in the Lazarus Pit and becomes the leader of the League of Assassins. Here’s a look:

Ra’s al Ghul debuted in Batman issue 232 in June 1971. The villain is one of Batman’s greatest adversaries and he often uses Lazarus pits, which restore his life or keep him from dying.

No official word has been said about Ra’s al Ghul in the DCEU or Viggo Mortensen’s involvement. There’s the option of including him as a villain in Matt Reeves’ The Batman or getting him in one of DC’s other upcoming films.

Viggo Mortensen is well known for playing Aragorn in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Recently, Viggo Mortenson was nominated for best actor for his performance as Frank “Tony Lip” Vallelonga in the film Green Book with Mahershala Ali. Viggo Mortensen is set to star in the upcoming movie Falling in 2020. At the age of 60, Viggo Mortensen could make a great Ra’s al Ghul, who is usually depicted as hundreds of years old.

A standalone Joker film set outside of the DC Films universe starring Joaquin Phoenix as the Clown Prince of Crime is also set to hit theaters October 4, 2019.
