Vin Diesel Nixed ‘Fate of the Furious’ Scene Ft The Rock & Jason Statham

Insiders claim that 'The Fate of the Furious' star and producer Vin Diesel killed a sequence that featured The Rock and Jason Statham.

During the marketing campaign for The Fate of the Furious, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson teased that he shares a particular beef with his co-star Vin Diesel. As the film’s first trailer was released and it was revealed that Diesel’s character Dominic Toretto has gone rogue against his Furious Family, this feud seemed to be nothing more than a publicity stunt to promote the film.

Interestingly enough, there may be actual evidence that this feud is in fact real. According to The Wrap, Diesel removed a scene that featured Johnson and Jason Statham. This scene was originally set to be a tag at the very end of the film. An insider told The Wrap of the scene and why it was put together in the first place:

“They had early screenings where Johnson and Statham popped so much on-screen together that they were looking at doing a spinoff.”

The report claims that producer Neal Moritz had this scene filmed without permission from Diesel. Executive producer Samantha Vincent notified Diesel of the tag, which allegedly enraged him. Because of this, the scene was removed from the theatrical edition of the film.

Another insider told The Wrap that the scene was shot initially as material that would be featured on the film’s home release. The insider insisted that the sequence would be better served somewhere else rather than the theatrical cut.

What do you guys think? Will we eventually see this sequence featuring Johnson and Statham on the Blu-ray and DVD release? Would you like to see a potential spinoff film between those two characters? Sound off in the comments below.

Directed by F. Gary Gray, the film stars Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludarcis, Nathalie Emmanuel, Kurt Russell, Scott Eastwood, Charlize Theron and Helen Mirren.

The Fate of the Furious races into theaters on April 14, 2017.
