‘The Walking Dead’: Greg Nicotero To Helm Three Episodes Of Season 7B

The Walking Dead’s seventh season is set to return this February with Greg Nicotero directing three episodes, including the mid-season premiere. Over the show’s seven-year run, Nicotero has served as an executive producer, director, and visual effects and makeup artist. Nicotero has directed some of the show’s most popular episodes, including the now-iconic Season 6 finale and Season 7 premiere.

For the seventh season’s return, Nicotero will be directing the premiere episode as well as episode 12 and 16, which makes him in charge of the season 7 finale as well. This decision bodes well for fans as they can expect even more gore, death, and betrayal to surface as the show nears its 100 episode mark.

Nicotero has been responsible for many of the special make-up effects seen in many recent and classic Hollywood films including Suicide Squad, The Hateful Eight, Evil Dead II, and Mullholland Drive.

Episode 9 will be titled “Rock in the Road“, and its plot will revolve around Rick coming in contact with a new community of survivors. You can read the rest of the season’s synopsis below.

Rick’s group will find out yet again that the world isn’t what they thought it was. It’s much bigger than anything they’ve seen so far. While they have a singular purpose – to defeat Negan – it won’t come easy. More importantly, victory will require more than Alexandria. They need the numbers of the Kingdom and the Hilltop, but, similar to how Rick felt, Ezekiel (Khary Payton) and Gregory (Xander Berkeley) do not want bloodshed. To convince them otherwise will take more than speeches. The lengths Rick and the group will have to go to in order to find weapons, food and new fighters is nothing short of remarkable. We’ll meet new survivors in incredible places. We’ll see Rick and the group tested in ways we’ve never seen before. We’ll see treachery from people we trust.  Rick is confident as he will see his group and many others band together with the common goal of taking down Negan.  But no amount of planning will prepare the group for all-out war with Negan and his army.

The Walking Dead will return on February 12th at 9 p.m ET on AMC.
