Did ‘The Walking Dead’ EP Greg Nicotero Accidentally Spoil The Season 7 Premiere?

Looks like we might be in for an even crazier premiere than what we originally thought. All summer long we have been wondering who was on the other end of that bat. The sole victim of Negan’s wrath.  But is it  victims?

In interview with EW, executive producer Greg Nicotero explained the great lengths the cast and crew went through to keep Negan’s victim a secret and to maintain the integrity of that insane cliffhanger.

We’ve gone to pretty significant length. That scene was shot on the backlot, because we didn’t want it to be shot out in public where people can climb trees, or for telephoto lenses, to capture something. It’s unfortunate, because those people, their job is to ruin the show, and our job is to preserve the experience of the show. So we do have to spend a lot of energy and a lot of effort preserving the experience of watching the show. It’s just the way the world is right now, and it’s an unfortunate thing.

In that same interview, Greg Nicotero was also asked about the backlash from fans surrounding the cliffhanger and not revealing Negan’s victim. His response is very interesting.

If we would have shown the deaths, then they wouldn’t have felt our characters in season 7 the way they need to.

Deaths. There it is. And with that, we now have a whole new ball game, folks. What if the biggest twist we have been preparing for is actually 2 victims? This would be in line with rumors that certain actors have not been seen on set during filming.

Let the speculation begin.

The Walking Dead returns to AMC on Sunday, October 23rd at 9/8C.
