‘The Walking Dead’: Michael Cudlitz Says Fans Should Worry About Intense Season

The sixth season finale of AMC‘s The Walking Dead left fans stressed, and in some cases furious, as the episode concluded without revealing the identity of which character met their untimely demise at the hands of new antagonist Negan. While several fans were initially angry that they would have to wait several months to see the iconic moment from the graphic novels come to life on the small screen (especially since most people who have read the graphic novels were waiting since Jeffrey Dean Morgan was cast as Negan in November 2015) the internet has been rampant with theories and rumours over the summer on the identity of Negan’s victim.

While actors and producers have managed to keep the identity of who Negan killed a secret from curious fans, actor Michael Cudlitz spoke to TV Guide and warned that the focus on how the opening moments of the seventh premiere will unfold has allowed viewers to lose sight of the rest of the season. “There’s a whole bunch of other stuff that’s gonna go down as the season progresses, and it’s intense,” says Cudlitz. “I would say they shouldn’t really be so much worried about the first episode as the rest of the season.”

Executive producer David Alpert seemed to agree with Cudlitz, elaborating on how fans need to be prepared for intense moments beyond the season premiere.

“I wish that they understood what’s coming next. People are so focused on this initial moment, but the rest of the season is so much more intense than that moment. That moments going to be devastating to so many people, but beyond that, there’s a brick on the accelerator on the car of The Walking Dead, and we’re going off the cliff this year.”

So if you were one of the fans who believed that the upcoming season of The Walking Dead couldn’t get more devastating than watching a fan favorite character who has been on the series for a long time meet a gruesome demise by baseball bat, Cudlitz and Alpert have some bad news for you.

The seventh season of The Walking Dead premieres on October 23, 2016 on AMC at 9:00 ET.
