In a recent interview with Digital Spy, Olyphant was asked about how close he came to screen-testing for The Walking Dead‘s Negan, but the actor’s answer was rather surprising:
“I’m not familiar with it. I mean, I know it exists and I hear it’s great. But if somebody offered me a part in The Walking Dead, I never heard about it.”
Since joining The Walking Dead, Morgan has talked about how he landed the role several times, revealing that AMC approached his agent, who then told him about the offer. This could very well mean that the shortlist was more of a wish list than anything, so the rest of the actors might have never even been aproached to play the fan-favorite villain.
The Walking Dead returns for the second half of its seventh season on February 12th at 9 p.m. ET on AMC. Be sure to check back at Heroic Hollywood after the episode for our review and much more on the show.
