Warner Bros. Chairman Comments On The Future Of DC Films

At yesterday’s Produced By event, Warner Bros. chairman Toby Emmerich spoke about the state of DC’s cinematic universe and how they envision the future of the franchise.

After Zack Snyder exited the DCEU prior to Justice League‘s debut, it seems that Warner Bros and DC didn’t know which way to go with their shared universe. Films like Aquaman and Shazam! had different tones from films like Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice and Man Of Steel, but nevertheless, these characters remain in the same world. Now films like Todd Phillips’ Joker will stand apart from the DCEU. So what’s going to happen with the future of the DC films?

It seems that Warner Bros. chairman Toby Emmerich is still trusting stories to directors as they did with Zack Snyder, Patty Jenkins, and James Wan. But they’re now adding the importance of having great producers oversee the development of the projects themselves:

“Great directors are the lifeblood of a studio, but they need great producers.”

Could this mean we’re poised for another take at a shared DCEU as Zack Snyder once envisioned? Sound off in the comment section down below!

The DCEU continues next year with Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) on February 7, 2020, and Wonder Woman 1984 on June 5, 2020. A standalone Joker film set outside of the DC Films universe starring Joaquin Phoenix as the Clown Prince of Crime is also set to hit theaters October 4, 2019.

Warner Bros. and DC are currently developing several projects. The list includes Matt Reeves’ The Batman, a Cyborg standalone film, a Flash standalone film, Green Lantern Corps, The Suicide Squad, Aquaman 2, The Trench, Black Adam, Supergirl, and New Gods.

Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on the future of the current DC cinematic universe as we learn it.
