The resignation comes amid an investigation into Kevin Tsujihara’s past relationship with actress Charlotte Kirk, which began after The Hollywood Reporter published texts between the two that indicated she sought Tsujihara’s help landing acting roles while they were in a sexual relationship together. Both Kevin Tsujihara and Charlotte Kirk have denied any wrongdoing, though Tsujihara stated he deeply regrets mistakes he made in his life in a memo released to staff on March 8.
An individual with knowledge of the situation reportedly told The Wrap Kevin Tsujihara’s resignation was a joint decision between himself and WarnerMedia CEO John Stankey, the latter of whom made the following statement:
“It is in the best interest of WarnerMedia, Warner Bros., our employees and our partners for Kevin to step down as Chairman and CEO of Warner Bros.,” Stankey said. “Kevin has contributed greatly to the studio’s success over the past 25 years and for that we thank him. Kevin acknowledges that his mistakes are inconsistent with the Company’s leadership expectations and could impact the Company’s ability to execute going forward.”
Stankey made the following statement in a memo sent to staff:
“It was a decision made with the best, long-term interests of the Company, our employees and our partners in mind. Kevin has acknowledged that his mistakes are inconsistent with the Company’s leadership expectations and could impact the Company’s ability to execute going forward.”
WarnerMedia has yet to name Kevin Tsujihara’s successor.
